RESEARCH AGENDA ITEMS FOR 2006-2008

Broughton Ecosystem Research Strategy
The Forum intends to work with scientists from a variety of disciplines to design a research strategy that will address the major factors affecting wild pink and chum salmon populations in the Broughton Archipelago. The strategy will be built on an understanding of ecosystem dynamics that affect these fish in all facets of their life cycle and will encompass several areas of research. Implementation of the research program will utilize workshops for researchers and consultations with the Forum's Science Advisory Committee and others. Requests for Proposals for research studies will be issued.

North Coast Baseline Studies
Support for the continued collection of baseline data on wild salmon on the North Coast in order to better understand fish migration routes, sea lice dynamics, etc. Priorities for this work will be developed in consultation with north coast stakeholders involved in this work.

Analysis of Historical Data of the Broughton Archipelago
This work will begin with the development of a state of knowledge report of the historical data available for this area. Data is being collected on: fish escapement, commercial fish harvest, environmental changes and conditions in the region, aquaculture production, logging, etc.

Miscellaneous Research

The Forum has allocated some limited funding to support miscellaneous research initiatives.

Unsolicited research proposals may be considered by the Forum. Those wishing to have a research proposal considered should consult with the Forum's office to confirm timeframes and use the following format for their research proposal. Unsolicited Research Form

The BC Pacific Salmon Forum recently awarded Research Grants for Students. For more information on these please click here.
